Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes in which woman develop high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. In addition, glucose remains in the bloodstream, where glucose levels rise. It can be managed by healthy diet and exercise. Insulin injections are the common medical treatment for gestational diabetes. If gestational diabetes is not detected and controlled, it may increase the risk of baby birth complications, such as shoulder dystocia (when the baby's shoulder gets stuck during the birth). Babies of mothers with gestational diabetes may experience hypoglycaemiarespiratory distress syndrome.
